Gera: West Bromwich Albion have re-signed Hungarian midfielder Zoltan Gera on a one-year deal, the Premier League club said yesterday. The 34-year-old has been out since January with a serious knee injury and was released by West Brom at the end of the season. However, after continuing rehabilitation at the club he was offered a new deal, and is expected to be available for selection in October.

Johannsson: US coach Juergen Klinsmann can call on former Iceland U-21 striker Aron Johannsson after the player’s nationality switch was approved by FIFA this week. Johannsson was born in Alabama, and his family moved to Iceland when he was three. The 22-year-old plays for AZ Alkmaar after making his name with Aarhus in Denmark.

Costa: Atletico Madrid have agreed a three-year contract exten-sion with Brazilian striker Diego Costa which secures his services in the Spanish capital until 2018. The 24-year-old scored 20 goals in all competitions last season, and was top scorer in the King’s Cup with eight, as the side went on to lift the trophy beating Real Madrid 2-1 in the final.

Di Santo: Werder Bremen have signed Argentine striker Franco Di Santo on a three-year deal as they seek to boost their frontline at the start of the Bundesliga season. The 24-year-old Di Santo, who has won two caps for Argentina, joined as a free agent after spells in England at Chelsea, Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic.

Toure: Monaco have confirmed that striker Ibrahima Toure has left the club. In a short statement on their official website, the club said Toure had joined Arabian side Al Nasr. The Senegalese played a key role in Monaco’s return to Ligue 1, scoring 31 goals in 58 games across 18 months in the Principality.
