Davies: Bolton captain Kevin Davies has held talks with Toronto about a move to Major League Soccer. The 36-year-old has been told he will not be getting a new contract at the Reebok Stadium and is free to leave. Houston Dynamo showed an interest in January, but at that point the one-time England striker thought he may still prolong his Bolton career.

Rennes: Stade Rennes coach Frederic Antonetti will leave the Ligue 1 club at the end of a disappointing season. Rennes are 10th in Ligue 1, after reaching as high as fourth in January, and have little to play for in their remaining six league games. An eight-match winless streak dashed any hopes of playing in European competition next season.

Ref hurt: Indonesian player Pieter Rumaropen could face heavy punishment after punching a referee in the face during a Super League match at the weekend. Rumaropen’s Persiwa Wamena were tied 1-1 with Bandung Raya on Sunday when referee Muhaimin awarded a penalty to Pelita with eight minutes to go. Video replays of the incident showed Rumaropen running up behind Muhaimin and landing a swinging left hook on the referee, who had to be admitted to a hospital due to excessive bleeding from his nose.

Leoz quits FIFA: Nicolas Leoz resigned from FIFA’s executive committee and as president of South American soccer organi-sation CONMEBOL yesterday due to health reasons. The 84-year-old Paraguayan, who had heart surgery for the fourth time in December, has led Conmebol since 1986 and been on the executive committee of world soccer’s ruling body FIFA since 1998.

Odds on: Sky Bet makes newly-crowned Premier League cham-pions Manchester United the 6/4 favourites to retain the title next term. Manchester City are 15/8 second favourites to win back the crown they pipped United to on the final day last season. Chelsea are a 5/1 shot with Arsenal 14/1 and Tottenham 18/1.
