Chelsea are investigating abuse directed towards forward Yossi Benayoun from their own fans after the Israel international described the comments as “crossing the limit”.

Benayoun was a substitute at Anfield in the 2-2 draw with his former club Liverpool and took to Twitter afterwards following further abuse.

“Disappointing result, always great to go back to Liverpool... really great full for the warm reception from the fans as always,” Benayoun wrote.

“The booing came from a small part of the Chelsea fans, they’ve been doing it in the last few weeks since I did an interview about Torres backing him to rediscover his best form.”

Lawyers look at Rangers takeover

Lawyers from leading London-based firm Pinsent Masons will spearhead a club-commissioned investigation into the extent of Charles Green’s links with former Rangers owner Craig Whyte.

The international law firm will work alongside forensic investi-gators from Deloitte to probe the connections between Whyte and what a club statement described as “former and current personnel of Rangers and its subsidiaries”.

Green resigned as chief execu-tive on Friday over allegations surrounding his dealings with Whyte, although he continued to deny any wrongdoing.

Evra pokes fun at Liverpool’s Suarez

Man. United defender Patrice Evra wasted no time in poking fun at Luis Suarez for his latest misdemeanour, pretending to chomp on a fake dismembered arm after his side clinched the title by beating Aston Villa on Monday.

The day before, Liverpool’s Suarez had bitten Chelsea de-fender Branislav Ivanovic during a 2-2 draw at Anfield – a moment of madness for which he faces a lengthy ban from the FA.

Suarez has been widely condemned for the bite, the second such incident of his career, and he was getting no sympathy from Evra who was embroiled in a racism storm with the Uruguayan in 2011.

Milan injuries

Milan have confirmed a double injury setback with midfielder Massimo Ambrosini joining goalkeeper Christian Abbiati on the sidelines.

Ambrosini failed to return after half-time in the 1-0 defeat at Juventus on Sunday with Abbiati lasting only 15 minutes before being replaced by Marco Amelia, who later conceded Arturo Vidal’s match-winning penalty.

“Milan would like to communicate that Massimo Ambrosini sprained his right ankle during the match against Juventus and has suffered some ligament damage,” the club said.

“Abbiati has strained his right calf. Both will have a better idea of how long their recovery time will be further into the week.”

Kompany staying at Manchester City

Defender Vincent Kompany has vowed to stay at Manchester City, saying: “I have no reason to go.”

Following last season’s title win, this campaign has been something of a disappointment with below-par showings in the English Premier League and Champions League.

That has been enough to spark speculation over the future of the Manchester City captain, with Barcelona mooted as a possible destination.

But the 27-year-old said: “I have no reason to go elsewhere.

“I am happy here, I have five years left and if you knew the plans for this team for the future... I consider that to be a real objective.”

Fiorentina eye Diakite swoop

Fiorentina have entered the race to sign Lazio defender Modibo Diakite who was touted as close to joining Napoli.

Diakite is said to have already agreed terms with Napoli but the Partenopei have so far failed to complete the deal.

Reports yesterday said that Diakite’s agent was now ready to listen to offers from other clubs and Fiorentina have stepped up their interest.

In summer, Diakite will be available on a Bosman free transfer after turning down a contract extension offer at the Rome club earlier this season.

United to get guard of honour

Arsenal are expected to provide new English Premier League champions Manchester United with a guard of honour ahead of Sunday’s match at the Emirates Stadium.

Tradition has seen champions clapped onto the pitch in the past, with United having done so for Chelsea in 2005 and also Arsenal back in 1991 at Highbury.

However, given the animosity from some Gunners supporters to the £24 million departure of their former captain Robin van Persie to rivals Manchester United, the issue did throw up concerns.

Nevertheless, Arsenal will proceed with the plans to mark United’s achievements.
