HESKEY: An Emile Heskey double in three minutes pushed Newcastle Jets to the top of the A-League following a 2-1 win over Melbourne Victory in New-castle yesterday. The former En-gland international made it four goals in as many games with two opportunistic second-half goals for the Jets’ third straight win. Heskey, 34, became the first Jets player to score in three successive games since 2007.
ROONEY JR: Barnsley have completed the signing of John Rooney who was a free agent following his return from America. The 21-year-old midfielder, brother of England striker Wayne, has signed a deal until the end of the season, subject to confirmation from the Football League.
BLACKBURN: Blackburn global advisor Shebby Singh claims the club will have a new manager in place next week. Rovers have had approaches for Fulham first-team coach Billy McKinlay and Tottenham counterpart Tim Sher-wood rejected as they look for a replacement for Steve Kean. “You have got to tread with caution and if caution means taking a little bit more time than usual we’ll take it,” Singh said.
JEROME: Stoke striker Cameron Jerome could be set to move to Championship side Blackburn on a short-term loan. The 26-year-old has only made three appearances from the bench this season and could now move to Ewood Park for a three-month loan spell.
