Berezutsky: CSKA Moscow defender Vassily Berezutsky will miss next month’s European Championship in Poland and Ukraine with a hip injury, Russia manager Dick Advocaat revealed yesterday. “Berezutsky is going to leave the Russian team,” Advocaat told reporters following the country’s first training session in Moscow. “He won’t recover from an injury for sure. We have taken this decision together with Vassily.”

Simone: Monaco have parted ways with manager Marco Simone and his technical staff, the Ligue 2 outfit said. “The management at Monaco has decided not to renew the team of coaches and an-nounces the departure of Marco Simone,” read a statement. Simone joined Monaco in September last year, with the 2004 Champions League finalists languishing in the relegation zone, and guided them to an eighth-place finish this season.

Highlights: Football League highlights will continue to be shown on terrestrial television after a new three-year deal was agreed with the BBC. The deal means The Football League Show, which began in 2009 and is shown immediately after Match Of The Day on a Saturday night, will continue to be broadcast until 2015.

Nigeria: The Nigerian football team yesterday failed to depart for Peru for a friendly after a passenger on the Madrid-bound flight was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of drugs. The flight was cancelled after the drugs enforcement agency arrested a passenger. Wednes-day’s friendly in Lima is part of the country’s build-up for next month’s 2014 World Cup and 2013 Africa Cup qualifiers.

Zilina: MSK Zilina were crowned Slovakian champions for the sixth time yesterday after a 2-0 win over DAC Dunajska Streda in their final league match of the season. It capped a tremendous season for Zilina, who won their last title in 2010, as they won the Cup earlier this month with a 3-2 win over FK Senica. Zilina will enter the Champions League at the second preliminary round.

Double: Salzburg completed the Austrian league and cup double yesterday when they defeated Austria Ried 3-0 in the cup final. Salzburg won their seventh league title the week before and will play in the Champions League second qualifying round in July.
