Barton: QPR midfielder Joey Barton was charged with two counts of violent conduct by the FA yesterday following his red card against Manchester City on Sunday. Barton was sent off for elbowing Carlos Tevez and then kicked Sergio Aguero before attempting to head-butt Vincent Kompany. Barton is now set to be banned for QPR’s first four games next season but he could end up with a longer suspension – possibly up to nine matches.

Bilic: Croatia coach Slaven Bilic announced yesterday that he will take over at Lokomotiv Moscow after the Euro Championships. The 43-year-old, who played for Everton and West Ham, took over as Croatia coach in 2006.

Emery: Spartak Moscow have named former Valencia trainer Unai Emery as head coach after clinching a Champions League spot in the last match of the 2011-2012 season. Spartak, who won the Russian league a record nine times, had been coached by their one-time star midfielder Valery Karpin since 2009.

Crook: Ian Crook was yesterday promoted from youth coach to head coach of Sydney FC for the next two seasons. Crook, 49, replaces Vitezslav Lavicka. Crook has coached in Asia, England and Australia following spells with Tottenham and Norwich.

Remy: France coach Laurent Blanc received a setback in his plans for Euro 2012 yesterday when Marseille striker Loic Remy was ruled out for up to four weeks with a thigh injury. Remy had to go off in the 50th minute of his side’s 3-0 win at home to Auxerre on Sunday.

Fatal fall: Tor Marius Grom-stad, who played as a defender for Norwegian club Stabaek, was found dead yesterday on a building site after apparently suffering an accidental fall. Relatives of the 22-year-old had been searching for the player since Saturday.
