Ħamrun Spartans lost the three points they had acquired from a 3-1 victory over Balzan Youths in the opening match of the current BOV Premier League season earlier this month as the Malta FA Protests Board yesterday ruled in favour of the newly-promoted club in a case dealing with an ineligible Reds player.

Balzan complained that Daniel Zerafa, a last-minute substitute in the said match, still had to serve suspension handed to him last season in the Youth League.

After a long hearing the verdict went in Balzan’s favour last night for them to chalk up their first three points in the championship from two matches. On Sunday, they were beaten by Qormi 3-0.

The Spartans, who lost their second match to Valletta on Friday, will now have to start from scratch in their bid to book a place in the top six of the championship.
