Edwin Meli, who held high positions in the Sliema ASC and Sliema Wanderers FC committees, passed away yesterday, aged 86.
Meli held the presidency of the waterpolo club for 37 years between 1956 and 1992 and during his tenure Sliema won the national league on 12 occasions and 13 times the KO competition.
Meli was also the club’s goal-keeper before taking up his post in the committee.
His carrier as an administrator was not restricted to aquatic sports only as he also served as president of Sliema Wanderers between 1955 and 1959 and season 1961-62.
The funeral will be held tomorrow at 9 a.m. at Stella Maris, Sliema.
