It appears that all local councils are reserving parking spaces for their residents, the latest being Sliema.

There are too many cars in tiny Malta and the new transport system did not remedy the situation. Rather, it was a step backward.

We are a tiny overpopulated country and do not have enough parking areas that could alleviate the problem. The private car parks have already smelt an opportunity and raised their fees.

If all councils are now going to introduce reserved parking for their residents, we will have a general restriction on free movement and it will be easier to travel to another country then to drive to another town. Each locality will become like a mediaeval city State and residents will end up stuck on the boundaries. This island is already claustrophobic, let alone with these restrictions on free movement.

The Sliema mayor suggests that whoever intends to visit the locality should use public transport. If this were efficient, then I would be the first to do so but it has not proven to be the case.

The mayor also suggests allocating two hours with no return to half the parking spaces. It already takes an hour to find a slot let alone under the new scheme.

With our size and population we cannot take on parking systems introduced in other countries.

The central government needs to get involved in the matter and remove this nonsense and selfishness; otherwise. we are going to end up locked within our own towns.

Someone from the Government or from Transport Malta must do something before we end up as prisoners in our own towns.

Malta is already small as it is, let alone with all this reserved parking all over the island.
