Differences of opinion have emerged over Sliema’s new parking scheme between the town’s residents and the non-residents. Businesses, especially in the Strand area seem to be worried about the effect of this new scheme. While I sympathise with Sliema residents, especially the disabled, one has to carefully consider the consequences of such a scheme. Once a decision is taken it will be very difficult to reverse it.

Whenever I need to go to Strand area, I normally park at Manoel Island and walk the short distance to the bus stop. A short walk to the Strand takes about 10 to 15 minutes while a bus ride could take less. May I suggest another park and ride service from the Nicholl football ground at Manoel Island to the Strand and back.

Now the public will have three options to choose from. A pay car park (two in Sliema), a regular Arriva bus service to the Strand and a park and ride service from the Nicholl football ground and back.
