Have the mayor and the Sliema local council seriously considered the negative impact that the proposed parking scheme will have on most Sliema residents?

What about the relatives who visit the ageing population, whose number is ever on the rise?

What about those who work in Sliema and provide a direct service to the residents, such as maintenance people, helpers, etc?

What about the residents who for one reason or another have an ID that is registered elsewhere but who, for all other intents and purposes, live in Sliema?

What about those who have registered company cars?

What about patrons who visit Sliema to generate a healthy turnover for the shops there?

I am sure that, taken together, all those above stand in the majority against those who think they have the right to park right in front of their front door.

Having lived in a busy area in Sliema for most of my long life, with, sometimes, as many as five cars being used by family members, let me point out that, with some compromise and a short walk, parking was never desperate.

I consider the new system being implemented to be against people’s freedom of movement.

I suggest the mayor and the council reconsider and not try to please the few. They need the majority to remain in their seats.
