Between 2000 and the end of August this year there were a total of 2,784 prison sentences that qualified for remission. During the same period there were 1,691 sentences that did not qualify.

Answering a parliamentary question by Joe Mizzi (PL), Justice Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici explained that a sentence did not qualify for remission if it was for less than 30 days, if it was the result of a fine having been converted to a jail term, and in the case of life imprisonment.
