A person who called the police saying “terrorists in black SUVs” were close to San Anton School in Mġarr has been identified.
Headmaster Joe Gauci confirmed that the police went to the school yesterday early afternoon after receiving the anonymous phone call that was a prank.
Sources said the call was made just before the children finished school, at 2.30pm. The anonymous caller said that the ‘terrorists’ were armed and hooded.
“San Anton School under-scores the fact that at no point in time was the allegation apparent or in any way real. The police, as is perfectly understandable, visited the school and took all the necessary precautions.
“The school collaborated fully with the police force to ensure that none of its students were at any moment in time at risk.
“We emphasise that at no point in time was any student, parent or staff member at San Anton School in any sort of peril whatsoever,” Dr Gauci stressed.
Police officers searched the school and established that the allegations of terrorists’ presence were unfounded and that “nothing was in any way amiss”.
Dr Gauci also denied allegations that the police had visited the school following claims that drugs were found on the premises.
“I categorically refute these very unfair allegations that drugs were found inside the school,” he said.
He added that the school was given to understand that the police had identified the source of the phone call.
A police spokeswoman confirmed to Times of Malta that the prank caller had been identified and investigations were ongoing.
