The new energy policy promised by the Labour Party was indeed an Alice in Wonderland fantasy, as the Nationalist Party had rightly pointed out.

The PL had insisted it would obtain a gas price fixed for 10 years but, for the PN, this was impossible. Indeed, the Government has had to accept a guaranteed price for only five years.

The PN also claimed it was pure fiction to say there existed gas carrier ships small enough to store 60,000 cubic metres. This has been proved right. In fact, the Government has had to double the storage capacity to 126,000 cubic metres.

The PL had proposed two gas storage tanks be built in Delimara but the PN noted that this was impossible because of the nature of the ground. The PN was right: the Government has been forced to opt for an offshore storage facility.

The PL had also promised that the company building the power station would donate €30 million as a “gift”, in 2014. The PN described this as a flight of Konradic fancy and has been proved right. The consortium is giving us no gift but buying yet another piece of Enemalta’s assets.

The PL had pompously promised a social impact assessment before every major project but the PN had explained that within the unrealistic time frames, neither this study nor an environmental one was possible. Here too the PN has been proved correct because no such studies were carried out before the project was approved.

At every step of the way, the PL has reneged on its promises and will no doubt continue to do so, proving that its electoral promises really involved an Alice in Wonderland scenario, complete with Mad Hatter and White Bunny.

Many switchers must now be asking themselves how they could have allowed josephmuscat.com to blind them with such vacuous promises.
