I am not talking about bus drivers this time because the drivers I encountered on Sunday were exceptional and triumphed under trying circumstances.

The pre hype offered much to us passengers. The buses are as good as described, the destination markings offered a simple method to determine the termination point and then it all went wrong because of human error.

The dispatchers sent out the drivers in the wrong buses, going to destinations not indicated. Most said bus not in service, others nothing at all and on all one had to ask the driver where he was going.

The drivers were patient and polite and their training had been excellent but all the money and time spent on route marking and bus markings all came to nought because the wrong buses were sent out on the wrong routes For instance, what was a 43 doing at Ċirkewwa? Who was to blame? Certainly not the drivers.

Even at Ċirkewwa there was a noticeable lack of transport authority members to ask questions to and they were finally traced to their cabins in the shade instead of mingling with the public who were left to fend for themselves. Buġibba was different with officials on hand to answer questions.

Lovely new terminus but where is the shade for passengers? “Oh, dear, there isn’t any.”

It may be a bit simplistic but surely it is not rocket science to position a number 1 in number 1 bay, 11 in bay 11, etc. all with the correct markings for that route, and send the driver off on time. Pity the poor workers.

Well done drivers.
