I am writing this letter to let readers know that the Żebbuġ local council cannot afford €50 in raw materials to temporarily fill in the potholes that would make any moon proud to have as craters. I am referring to Patri Pelaġju Mifsud Street.

Residents who pass through this road and others have repeatedly asked the council and some even the mayor to take steps and repair them but it seems that vehicles are doomed to suffer damage.

The excuse this elected council gives us is, and I quote: “The road is waiting for Transport Malta to redo it.”

In the meantime, months have passed and the potholes are growing longer, wider and deeper. May we dare ask when and if Transport Malta has any intention of repairing such roads and if so when?

Meanwhile, if the local council had the decency of doing its elected duty – that of keeping the locality and its citizens as content as possible – it would have considered spending a mere €50 to fill in these holes as a temporary measure.

There was a lot of fanfare and publicity at the opening of the refurbished play ground (which took years to be started and already has a dismantled seesaw). To make the area look nice, even the parking spaces were painted. Why? Beats me, since the road is destined to be pulled up anyway.

The money spent on paint could have been used to repair the potholes.
