Parliamentary secretary Ian Borg yesterday threatened to take action against those alleging that he bought property from someone who may not have been in the right state of mental health.

In a statement issued through his secretariat, Dr Borg referred to an article that appeared in The Malta Independent and categorically denied the allegations made.

The article claimed that a Dingli family was considering taking legal action to reverse the sale of a piece of land by their mentally ill father.

“This was purely a private matter, and internal conflicts between family members should not be used in any way to tarnish the reputation of someone who is a total stranger to such disagreements and to the family itself, merely on the basis of being a public figure,” Dr Borg said.

In the statement he said the property was a field measuring almost half a tumolo. The seller had acquired the property in 2009 when it was valued at €1,000. He then sold it to Dr Borg last year for €11,700.

Dr Borg said the same person – together with his siblings and his mother – had sold Dr Borg another property and he had entered into two other separate contracts before and after this particular transaction, together with another 17 members of his family.
