A 19-year-old man was yesterday accused of assaulting four police officers who were trying to break up a fight in Paceville.

Raffaele Calleja, a construction worker from Balzan, denied resisting arrest, disobeying police orders and assaulting the officers at 3 a.m. yesterday.

He also denied breaching the peace and committing a crime while out on probation.

It allegedly happened after the police stepped in when Mr Calleja was arguing with another person.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke granted him bail against a deposit of €200 and a personal guarantee of €2,000.

Police Inspector Luke Bonello prosecuted. Lawyer José Herrera appeared for Mr Calleja.
