Everyone enjoys good signage, especially when it comes to road signs. Of late we are seeing an extravaganza of road signage to announce detours, hazards, road surfacing and above all signs that tell you that these works have been commissioned by Transport Malta.

Now we know who is sticking all the poles in the ground. That’s fine by me but why do these signs have to remain in place for months after the project or detour have been taken care of?

To add more insult to our intelligence, once these poles are removed, nobody seems to take responsibility to fill them up with cement or asphalt. If every one of these holes is planted with a tree, we might have a greener network of roads, but one is more likely to twist one’s ankle in one of them than to see something growing.

On a final note, a word of advice to Transport Malta: stop telling us about who did the works on a few metres of asphalt because we are now seriously concerned about how much these pointless signs or billboards are costing us!
