Gudja United 0
Pembroke Athleta 1

Pembroke Athleta did the double over Gudja and are now a step nearer to making history and win promotion to the Premier League for the first time.

If Fgura fail to beat St George’s this evening, Jacques Scerri’s Pembroke will seal their passage to the top flight next season.

Despite having Roderick Bajada and Ousmane Sidibe missing through suspension, Pembroke were well worth their win, thus jolting Gudja’s aspirations of finishing third and figure in a play-off with the side finishing third-bottom in the Premier League.

Pembroke had the better of the initial stages and after 13 minutes they went close into taking the lead when Bello Osagie Abubaker hit his shot inches wide. Five minutes later the Pembroke striker had his effort saved by keeper Yenz Cini from just inside the area after being put through by Lucky Omerou.

Gudja started to come more into the picture and on the half hour a Joselito Dos Reis Santos free-kick graced the post.

But on resumption, Pembroke forged ahead when keeper Cini was caught out of his lines and Bello Osagie hit home inside an empty net.

Gudja almost levelled the scores when Geoffrey Spiteri could have committed an own goal but Cassar was on the right spot to stop the bad clearance. The game continued flowing and Omerou hit wide from a Laudisi cross.

Omerou’s drive, following a Ryan Cauchi cross, just missed the target and late on the same player drove the ball over the crossbar following a fine run.
