I refer to the letter by Rita Caruana of Swieqi (‘Parking the wrong way’, February 16).

Some months ago the Swieqi council chose to convert the Triq l-Istasijia/ Triq Lebrun crossroads from parallel parking to 90 degree parking. All well and good where visibility is not impaired when reversing in or out of a parking bay.

However, one quadrant of the cross road parking bays is completely blind when approaching the junction in Triq l-Istasijia. I drew the attention of this ‘potential’ accident black spot to the Swieqi mayor, Noel Muscat, but despite numerous telephone calls it has fallen on deaf ears.

To date there have been four accidents (in three months) caused while reversing on this cross road.

Luckily only superficial damage was incurred by the vehicles involved but this is more luck than judgement.

The council advises us to park parallel to the kerb until something is sorted out as the parking bays are only guidelines.

Hopefully the issue will be addressed before any fatal accidents occur. Transport Malta please note.
