Is Andrew Galea (June 13) really serious? He complains because motorcycles take up valuable car space in Sliema. Does he not know that every motorcyclist pays through the nose to license and insure his vehicle and, consequently, has as much right to use the road, and park his motorcycle, as he and other car drivers do?

Motorcycle spaces, introduced recently by the councils, are a good idea simply because they use up small areas that cannot otherwise be used to park a car but that does not mean that motorcyclists are not allowed to park their motorcycles anywhere else.

I own both a car and a motorcycle and I pay far more in licence and insurance fees for the dubious luxury of using and parking my motorcycle than I do for my car. So, by what stretch of the imagination does Mr Galea feel that we motorcyclists are second-class citizens and should not have the same rights as he does?

For Mr Galea’s information, with a motorcycle, especially in Sliema, traffic jams and parking problems are non-existent. Thus, if he really wishes to ease his frustration, I recommend he takes up motorcycling, which is also more environmentally friendly, apart from helping one keep one’s sanity.
