Recently the Labour Party called a press conference in Qawra attended by three of its MPs, local Labour councillors and party members, as well as other non-politically affiliated people whose only interest is the locality they live in.

Hence, this press conference, which was about “the dire shortage of car parking spaces” in the area, was labelled as political. A solution to the parking problem has been promised for over 20 years but nothing has ever materialised. This problem affects all the residents, visitors and the business fraternity of the area irrespective of political allegiance.

If ever there was an occasion for all people of the entire political spectrum and persuasions to come together in the area for a good cause, this was it.

It was also a great pity that Nationalist MPs representing the district did not join in along with all the St Paul’s Bay councillors whose real interest should be the locality at all times and not their political party allegiance, that is unless they are going to announce how they intend to address the parking crisis in this area which is getting worse every day.
