Two men meant to be guarding the Intercontinental Hotel car park in St Julian’s yesterday pleaded guilty to breaking into three cars and stealing several items.

They were placed on probation for two years and sentenced to 100 hours of community service after they admitted to the charges.

A 50-year-old from Naxxar, and a 29-year-old from Marsaxlokk, admitted to three thefts in November and December last year and one in May. They stole three satellite navigation systems, a camera and a computer from the cars. They also pleaded guilty to damaging the cars.

Magistrate Carol Peralta placed them on probation for two years and ordered them to carry out 100 hours of community service.

Police Inspector Arthur Mercieca prosecuted, while lawyers Franco Debono, Marion Camilleri and Angie Muscat appeared for the accused.
