Paris St Germain and Italy midfielder Marco Verratti has undergone a “successful” operation on his persistent groin problem.

PSG announced earlier in the month that Verratti was set for surgery after an injury-hit season and would miss this summer’s European Championship.

The operation took place in Doha yesterday and the club were satisfied with the outcome.

The 23-year-old, who in February signed a contract extension until 2020, is expected to require around two months’ rehabilitation so will hope to rejoin PSG’s squad in time for the new Ligue 1 season.
