The general election campaign left the Nationalist Party with a shortfall of €367,705, according to figures released yesterday.

The party said it raked in €1.53 million from its three televised marathons in the run-up to the March 9 election. It also raised €308,000 from ‘other’ donations.

But the figure was more than outstripped by other costs – the PN said it spent more than €1 million on public activities, €438,000 on outdoor mass advertising (including billboards), more than €400,000 on printed material, and €341,000 on advertising and social media.

PN general secretary Chris Said stressed the party was publishing the figures to show transparency and accountability.

The Labour Party had said it would publish its campaign expenses as part of its yearly accounts.
