Finance Minister Tonio Fenech has announced that the government will be waiting until June to decide whether to cut €40 million from its Budget expenditure. He said that he will only introduce the cuts if the deficit reduction target is not met by the middle of the year!

Isn’t it obvious that the real reason is quite different? By postponing the cuts to June, Mr Fenech will not have to reveal where certain cuts will be made, especially if Lawrence Gonzi and his election strategists have already decided on a May or June election!

What guarantees has the Minister of Finance, that GonziPN might not be forced into an earlier election? Or does he want to leave the problem for the incoming government, which, I believe, is more probable?
