Cygna’s Opus Ena album was by far one of the most intrigu-ing releases of the local scene last year.

The album’s otherworldly blend of classical elements and electronic embellishment was very warmly embraced abroad, as a result of which the Maltese musician and composer probably enjoys a healthier following in other countries than he does on home turf.

The expansive feel of Cygna’s music lends it a versatility that has been tried and tested successfully in various environments – from art galleries and installations to film, TV and theatre productions as well as live performances, of which he has done several, locally and overseas.

With the album still enjoying relative success, Cygna has been working on new material. The first of these to surface is an epic track by the name of Camaras de Lamento; a new piece that bridges several elements – from fragile guitar picking to vocal ramblings that evolve into a full-blown ethereal manifestation of spatial rhythms and delicate melodies. The track has been released as part of a compilation called Special Places, released through Ukraine label Sentimony Records and is currently available online at http://sentimony.bandcamp.com/album/special-places .

The album, compiled by Siberian artist Astropilot, features 12 tracks ranging from ambient electronica to modern classical and score music.
