The US has already had a Hollywood actor as President, but is it ready for an opinionated metal musician to take over the White House?

Further to football icon Eric Cantona’s recent announcement of his aspirations for the French presidency, American metal vocalist Randy Blythe recently made public his own similar intentions Stateside.

“My name is D. Randall Blythe, I sing for a band called Lamb of God, and I am going to be the next President of the United States. If you want…” This is how Blythe introduces the rather colourfully-worded (to put it mildly) political manifesto that can found on his Randonesia blog.

“I want to be the Big Cheese,” he continues in his 2,000-word rant, going on to lambast all the potential candidates in the presidential race along with a good number of governmental issues ranging from recent civil rights agreements to corporate interference, the country’s current Congress, America’s ongoing military obligations and even a reference to the 2012 Mayan calendar controversy, about which he writes that this means “that bad stuff is on the horizon”.

Up until recently, Blythe had been blogging incessantly about the state of digital music, but politics now seem to have grabbed his full attention.

His band Lamb of God releases its new album Resolution tomorrow, which may mean Blythe will have other things, such as promotion and touring commitments on his mind besides politics – or maybe not.

One can only wait and see what the man with an opinion about anything and everything will do next.
