The Malta police have launched a new logo to mark its upcoming 200th anniversary.

The police force, in its present format, was founded on July 12, 1814.

Police Commissioner Peter Paul Zammit explained that the theme of the logo ‘Min-nies ghan-nies’ (from people to people) represents the thinking behind the corps, which has largely remained constant throughout its history.

The year 2014 will also mark the 60th anniversary since the police headquarters moved to its present location in Floriana.

The police explained that the eight-pointed cross depicted in the logo was blurred out to signify the fact that the police were “never static, but always on the go”.

The police also said it was in talks with the Central Bank of Malta to discuss the issuing of a coin to mark the anniversary.

The Police calendar marking the 200th anniversary is also out. A copy can be obtained against a donation for L-Istrina campaign.
