He has just welcomed his baby daughter North into the world – and it seems the only direction is up for Kanye West as his latest album went straight in at number one.

The star’s new offering, Yeezus, is his first number-one album in the UK since 2007’s Graduation, and his fourth Official Top 10 album over all, Official Charts Company said.

The follow-up to his collaboration with Jay-Z, Watch the Throne, Yeezus was produced by Rick Rubin (Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, Run DMC) and features guest appearances from Daft Punk, Frank Ocean, Kid Cudi, Charlie Wilson, and Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon.

It is the second celebration this week for West who has just become a parent to baby North with his partner Kim Kardashian.

Last week’s chart topper, 13 by Black Sabbath, is down one place to number two, while Kodaline are new in at number three with their debut album In a Perfect World. The albums chart is completed by Rod Stewart’s Time at four and Passenger’s All the Little Lights at five.

US R&B star Robin Thicke topped the Official Singles Chart for a fourth week in a row with Blurred Lines.

The summer anthem, which also features TI and Pharrell Williams, fought off competition from Jason Derulo’s The Other Side (number two) to retain its position.

Blurred Lines is so far the second biggest selling single of 2013, clocking up a further 133,000 sales over the last seven days, to bring its total combined sales tally to 718,000 copies.

Daft Punk’s Get Lucky, which also features Pharrell, remains this year’s biggest selling single, and is fast approaching one million copies.

La La La by Naughty Boy featuring Sam Smith, and Let Her Go by Passenger, both fell one place to number three and number four respectively, while Dizzee Rascal completed the top five with Goin’ Crazy featuring Robbie Williams.
