The new British High Commissioner described the relationship between Malta and the UK as “dynamic and hugely valuable” both bilaterally and in inter-national fora.

“I look forward to building on our past cooperation and to working in partnership with the Maltese authorities as we respond together to new challenges,” Rob Luke said after presenting his diplomatic credentials to President George Abela on Thursday at the Palace in Valletta.

Mr Luke said he was honoured to represent the UK in Malta. “The privilege is all the greater because of the strength of the relationship between our countries,” he added.

Mr Luke, who is accompanied by his wife Louise and their two sons and daughter, said he was eager to get to know the islands and the Maltese well.

Before Malta, he served for four years as counsellor for justice and home affairs at the British Embassy in Paris.
