Mark Mifsud Bonnici’s letter (October 22) in answer to mine (October 18) has totally missed the point. It is in a cat’s nature to catch birds, even though I do not like it.
Humans have a choice to let birds enjoy their freedom. If people “have lost their natural hunting instinct” this is due to the desire for a civilised society, which recognises there is no justification for hunting birds, an activity which originated in the days when food was hard to find.
Even less is the justification for shooting protected and migrating species which are either left to die or destined for exhibition in a glass case. How very sad.
