The latest in the list of huge expenditures by the government is that for St Philip’s Hospital, to the tune of €12 million. The growing expenses this government, in its desperate effort to collect some stray votes, is piling on future taxpayers include higher pay for the judiciary (€12 million), the police (€4.5 million), Air Malta pilots (€4.5 million), the public service (€190 million)... the list is endless.

And, yet, the latest opinion poll carried out for The Sunday Times revealed that the gap between the Labour Party and the Nationalist Party has widened by another two points. What does this mean?

To me it only means one thing: the longer Lawrence Gonzi delays calling an election the greater will be his party’s defeat. The people no longer have confidence in Gonzi – they are fed up with the blatant lies, half-truths and spins being dished out by the government.

The PN has become arrogant and insufferable. This government is throwing money around because it knows it will not be the one that will have to pick up the bill for such extravagance. If you ask me, this is sheer irresponsibility.
