Leaders Mosta kept marching on after a hard-fought victory over Gozo FC earlier this week in the BOV Division One.

At their own Charles Abela Stadium, Mosta chalked up their fifth victory in six outings as Kenneth Costantino’s side maintained a three-point lead over nearest rivals Hibernians and Birkirkara at the top of the standings.

Mosta, however, had to work hard for the points. They made all the running during the first half but failed to break the Gozitans’ resistance.

The breakthrough arrived on 65 minutes with a Dorianne Theuma goal. Gozo were closing all avenues to their goal but at the death, Rachel Nolan rounded up the score for the winners.

The derby between Hibernians and Tarxien produced a goal feast as the Paola girls trounced their neighbours 8-1.

As the final scoreline indicates, this was a one-sided affair with Hibs already 6-0 up at the interval.

Ylenia Carabott was on target six times for Hibs, Dionne Tonna and Francesca Chircop also added their names to the scoresheet with Francesca Cauchi netting the consolation goal for Tarxien on 56 minutes.

Birkirkara, meanwhile, continued with their chase as they thrashed Mġarr United 5-0.

The champions were already three goals up at the break. Martina Cilia opened the scoring on 20 minutes and Gabriella Zahra increased their lead three minutes later.

Cuschieri scored either side of half-time to make it 4-0 before Zahra beat Mġarr goalkeeper M’Claire Tabone again 10 minutes from time.

Meanwhile, Pembroke continued to show progress as they registered their third win of the campaign with 2-0 victory over Ħamrun Spartans.

Pembroke’s goals came from Amber Grech and Leanne Micallef. Rikky Pace’s team are now joint fourth with Mġarr on the nine-point mark.
