A model who was meant to take part in the Miss World Malta contest three years ago was yesterday ordered to pay €6,000 in damages for failing to turn up for events.

Diandra Agius was sued by Modelle International, represented by Sue Rossi and former Miss Malta Claudia Dalli, who told Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera they had paid a licence to an international operator to organise the contest.

The 25 selected contestants – including Ms Agius – signed a contract regulating their participation and she breached this by not turning up for related events, they said.

Ms Agius gave no notice for missing a photo shoot. It turned out, through Facebook, she had spent the night out. She later appeared in a TV show called Singled Out on One TV when she was supposed to be taking part in Miss World Malta.

In her defence, Ms Agius said she did not know how to read and was in hospital with kidney stones when the photo shoot took place.

The magistrate said Ms Agius had not brought any evidence to prove when she was in hospital but it was clear she was had been seeking an excuse to get out of the contest.
