Transport Minister Joe Mizzi strongly denied that Transport Malta was doing nothing to educate people to make more use of public transport because he was not committed enough to the cause.

Replying to remarks by Toni Bezzina (PN), Mr Mizzi said the opposite was the truth.

He accused Mr Bezzina of being “negative and destructive”, unable to find anything good in what had been done over the last nine months to encourage more people to use the buses.

He assured him that Transport Malta was committed to educating the people on every aspect under its responsibility.

Transport Malta, he added, would be embarking on an educational campaign before the new public transport routes came into effect.

Probed by MPs about talks with public transport operator Arriva, he said he had “nothing to add” to what he had already stated.
