I have the impression that if the families of Romeo and Juliet were to spend a week in a hotel in Mellieħa they will be more than welcome by the local community and thanks to them the village gossip will reign supreme. Romeo and Juliet will even be provided with two sexy nannies and entertainment will be in the hands of DJ MY (Mellieħa Youth), singing and dancing above all Gangnam Style.

The pantomime Romeo and Juliet, ably presented by MY at the Mellieħa school hall, despite its limitations, was well received by the audience, which enjoyed every minute of it, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of the old village theatre entertainment.

Year in year out, the Government is providing modern sports facilities at all levels but, unfortunately, we still lack proper auditoriums where our youth can express their talent more professionally.

L’Aquila, the Italian town ravaged by an earthquake three years ago, has just inaugurated an auditorium designed by Renzo Piano, although other facilities are still in ruins, built by many volunteers. This shows how much the community believed that by building this auditorium they can encourage talent, art and culture, which will flourish for years to come even though surrounded by ruins.
