The General Workers’ Union has registered an industrial dispute with Mater Dei Hospital management and the health authorities complaining that employees on contract will not get the same wages as government workers doing the same job.
Last February, managers agreed that about 300 G4S workers assigned to the hospital would have their wages increased to match government employees performing the same duties.
On Thursday, the GWU was informed that the tender for security, clerical and parking services would not include the provision that had been agreed upon 11 months ago. This meant that while performing duties for and giving a service to the Government, the 300 employees could still be considered as being contract workers.
