Marsovin recently launched its winery club, Club Marsovin, at its cellars in Marsa. Director Jeremy Cassar introduced the club to a large group of wine lovers who became the very first club members by registering on the same night.

Now in its second vintage, Primus is the first Imqadded Ta’ Malta wine ever produced

As a treat, those present also had the opportunity to taste the new vintage 2010 of Marsovin’s boutique wine, Primus.

Mr Cassar said the concept behind the creation of Club Marsovin was to promote the culture of wine by forming a community of wine aficionados to share experiences, address queries to Marsovin’s wine specialists and mingle into the wine world.

Club members can take advantage of a number of benefits ranging from invitations to various winery events, tastings at the Marsovin cellars, vineyard dinners and discounts on wines.

Marsovin’s boutique wine, Primus, is now in its second vintage, 2010. Primus is the first Imqadded Ta’ Malta wine ever produced in Malta. The process is similar to that of an Amarone Della Valpolicella except that the grapes are sun dried after harvest rather than cold dried.

The grapes are hand picked just as they reach full ripeness in September, then they are left untouched in grape crates to sun dry in the winery. During this time, the grapes are naturally dehydrated by the elements, adding to the concentration of aromas, sugars and acids in the juice.

The sun drying period ranges between two to three weeks, depending on the variety. The Syrah generally dries faster than the Ġellewża due to the difference in size and thickness in the grape and grape skins.

Mr Cassar said the wine proved that when Ġellewża is dried after harvesting it can produce a wine of significant character and body.

“I strongly believe with this wine Maltese and foreign consumers will have a brand they can be very proud of, and truly call it a flagship for Maltese wine,” he said.
