A battered and bruised Marc Marquez is ready to put his Mugello travails behind him on home soil at this weekend’s Catalan Grand Prix in Barcelona.

The 20-year-old rookie has made a superb start to his maiden season in the MotoGP World Championship, but slipped to third in the standings after suffering his first major setback in Italy.

The Repsol Honda rider fell in every session at Mugello, with his Friday practice accident, while approaching 200 miles per hour on the main straight, the most frightening.

Marquez has since been sent to see specialist Dr Xavier Mir after having trouble moving his arm and experiencing pain in his shoulder, but he was cleared as only having “minimal injuries”.

And with a partisan home crowd ready to cheer him on, the Spaniard is confident he can bounce back this weekend.

“After crashing out in Mugello I really can’t wait to get back on the bike at my home GP in Montmelo,” he said.

“I am more relaxed after seeing Dr Mir last week and he confirmed there are no complications with my injuries and I am on my way to feeling 100 per cent again.

“I really hope we have good weather in Barcelona so that once again, we can make the most out of all the free practice sessions.

“This is another track where all the other riders have much more experience than me and they will be extra tough to beat.

“But we will keep to our own programme and work hard and try our best.”

The Catalan round of the championship is also the home race for championship leader Dani Pedrosa and second-placed man Jorge Lorenzo.

Yamaha rider Lorenzo won last time out in Italy, and hopes to further trim his 12-point deficit to Pedrosa and his Honda.

He said: “I am very optimistic for the race and we will keep on working on the bike in the same way that we did in Italy.”
