A 47-year-old man suffered serious injuries, allegedly caused by a small penknife, following a fight with his 44-year-old partner yesterday morning.

The woman was allegedly struck with a piece of wood but the state of her injuries are believed to be slight.

Police said that at about 2am yesterday they were told a man had been injured in Triq It-Tiġrija, Marsa.

They found blood on the ground and were told the man had been taken to Mater Dei Hospital. Preliminary investigations suggested that the man, from Marsa, had been involved in a fight with the woman, his partner, who lives in Ħamrun.
