A man who was charged on Sunday with threatening his former partner and daughter was yesterday in court again for breaching bail conditions handed down to him in that case.

Denis Xuereb, 51, from Swieqi, sobbed as he pleaded not guilty to breaching the conditions after he allegedly harassed his daughter when he was expressly prohibited from even speaking to her by a magistrate on Sunday.

In that arraignment he was also charged with being in possession of a gun with a silencer.

Crying throughout the arraignment yesterday, Mr Xuereb glanced over at his former partner and daughter who also began to cry when they saw him in tears.

Defence lawyer Roberto Montalto told the court his client needed psychological help and he was not requesting bail but for him to be treated at Mount Carmel Hospital.

Magistrate Gabriella Vella ordered that he be kept at Mount Carmel for two months and that an initial report be drawn up about his mental state before the sitting in two weeks’ time.

As Mr Xuereb left the court room he approached his wife and daughter and hugged and kissed them.

The case continues.
