A €193,000 donation from Malta will allow a hospital in Ghana to buy medical equipment to treat HIV or AIDs patients and also install solar water heating and a borehole.

The Ghana Mission Foundation is overseeing the project at the Maltese Health Centre in Ghana, also known as HopeXchange.

The health centre, which will open its doors soon, consists of an 80-bed hospital in the city of Kumasi. It will specialise in eye care, breast cancer, HIV/AIDS, malaria and facial malformation and will also serve as a teaching hospital. The equipment for the HIV/AIDS department will be purchased through funds raised in Malta and Gozo and money donated by the government under the overseas development aid programme.

Funds for the solar water heating and the first phase of the borehole were collected through the government’s Fast-Start Climate Change Initiative Fund.

Donations towards the project can be sent to the foundation by cheque or money order addressed to the Ghana Mission Foundation. Donations can also be made through the foundation’s bank accounts: BOV 1120 6046 019 or HSBC 033 143819 050.
