Malta Enterprise travels to South Africa on Saturday with a business delegation heading for Johannesburg and Cape Town, its first international mission to examine the potential of business opportunities on its 2012 calendar published this week.

The seven-day visit by the multi-sectoral delegation is organised in collaboration with Finance Malta, which is to attend the high profile HedgeNews Africa Symposium in Cape Town on February 23. Finance Malta said an impressive array of speakers was lined up to share their views on investment opportunities across the continent, different hedge funds strategies, and institutional investor trends this year.

Meanwhile, Malta Enterprise’s Guardamangia headquarters is receiving applications from entrepreneurs seeking to join the business delegation to the Israeli capital Tel Aviv between March 24 and 28.

The visit should appeal to those operating in the technology, and research and development spheres, but the state also performs well in sectors like life sciences, pharmaceuticals, financial and professional services, creative industries, renewable energy and food and beverages. Applications will be received until February 20.

Other trade missions for the year are planned for Riyadh and Doha, Milan, Tunis, Cologne and Munich, Stockholm and Copenhagen, London and Ireland, Hong Kong and Shanghai, and Abu Dhabi and Kuwait City.

The only officially announced trip to Libya – arguably the most highly anticipated destination with interest from several hundred business people –is the visit to the Libya Build construction fair in May.

Malta Enterprise said trade missions to Libya are lined up but dates have not been set as the agency was currently fostering relations in Libya with a view to arranging a suitable programme of events for visiting entrepreneurs.

Malta Enterprise will lead visits to several trade fairs throughout the year, among them the EBACE aviation event in Geneva in May, the EIRE property and construction fair in Milan in June, the Monaco Boat Show in September and the SIAL food and beverage trade fair in Paris in October.

The internationalisation calendar is organised in collaboration with Finance Malta, The Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry, the Malta Chamber of SMEs, and the Gozo Business Chamber.
