A total of 144 bids for residency in preparation for citizenship were submitted, including 12 complete applications, Home Affairs Minister Emanuel Mallia said.

He told Opposition leader Simon Busuttil in Parliament yesterday that Identity Malta had decided to start processing six of the 12 applications.

Dr Mallia kept insisting all along that Maltese citizenship was “not for sale”.

He said that the board of governors of the National Social Development Fund had not yet been appointed but this would be done “at the appropriate time”.

An account on the operations of Identity Malta would also be given, as required by law.
