MSV Life has presented an award to Armand Busuttil, a former staff member, for his dissertation The Distinctive Role of Risk Management and Internal Audit in a Maltese Life Assurance Company.

Mr Busuttil joined Middlesea Group in 2008 as a summer worker and stayed on until December 2010 while reading for Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Malta.

It was the internship experience which inspired Mr Busuttil to use MSV Life as a case study for his dissertation.

The dissertation addresses the importance of good corporate governance and of certain critical functions, such as internal audit and risk management, in the overall governance framework of a life insurance company.

The study assesses and compares the roles of the internal audit and risk management functions within MSV Life with those of foreign life insurers.

The study concluded that the governance framework of MSV Life compares well with that of other life insurance companies in other markets. Mr Busuttil completed the dissertation in April last year and attained a Bachelor of Accountancy (Hons) degree last November.

Mr Busuttil’s dissertation was also awarded the PricewaterhouseCoopers award for the best dissertation in insurance and risk nanagement. Mr Busuttil currently works for Deloitte.
