Liquigas raised its gas prices sharply from yesterday, with the most popular 12kg cylinders going up by €1.50 to €18.

The Malta Resources Authority pointed out that this was still €1.21 less than the maximum price. It also said gas cylinders in Malta were cheaper than in Italy and that in the past month, the price of LPG had increased by an average of 12 per cent in just a month.

Liquigas blamed the increase on various reasons, including the instability in the region which raised international market prices. The prices were also affected by the weakening of the euro against the dollar and the increase in local distribution costs.

However, through diligent purchasing, the company said it managed to maintain a stable price throughout last year.

Distributors of Liquigas cylinders are not authorised to charge additional prices over and above these prices.
