Lifeguards at the Blue Lagoon went to the assistance of 11 people in 15 minutes yesterday afternoon after the swimmers found themselves in difficulty as sea currents got stronger.

The swimmers had no strength left to reach land and were pulled ashore, the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps Lifeguards team said.

It recommended that, before entering the sea, swimmers should always look at the colour of the flag attached to the lifeguarding tower.

In another incident, a person suffering a dislocated shoulder was taken to the Gozo General Hospital by the corps’ hydro ambulance.
