Balzan FC failed in their bid to have the three-match suspension imposed on Malcolm Licari reduced following his dismissal in the 3-2 defeat to Hibernians last month.

Licari was sent off by referee Adrian Azzopardi after aiming a soft kick at Hibs goalkeeper Daniel Balzan and was handed a three-match ban by the Malta FA Disciplinary Commissioner.

The decision incensed Balzan FC who lodged an appeal, contending that Licari’s actions could not be judged as violent conduct.

However, the Appeals Board yesterday rejected their claims and confirmed Licari’s suspension.
